The world-renowned gaming expo E3, which took place in L.A. not too long ago, has proved that the trend of free-to-play gaming is continuing to grow within the gaming industry. Even the classic game publishers have recognized that. Crytek, the creators of the famed Crysis shooter series, have already announced their plans to focus on the free-to-play business model and have already begun work on the online shooter Warface. However, we wanted to take a look at what the future holds for free-to-play gaming in the console scene. Free Realms is a free-to-play MMORPG with a heavy focus on socialization for younger players. In the wacky, colorful world you can experience various adventures and even create your own little home. The customization of characters is a major part of the gaming experience in Free Realms. You can create your character with all kinds of fun costumes and various accessories. Then, in your wonderful outfit, you will be able to hunt for buried treasures or team up with friends and newcomers. There are also countless mini-games to play, like a collectable card game or small board games. Learn a particular career as well and help your friends out by creating items.

DC Universe Online (PlayStation 3)
A super-hero and spandex filled world awaits you in the free-to-play MMORPG, DC Universe Online. You can decide whether you want to be a hero or villain and fight alongside the likes of Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Mister Freeze or Poison Ivy. Of course, tough challenges await you in depths of Arkham Asylum or the headquarters of the Justice League. In various game modes, you will have to fight either alone or alongside other players and push your skills to the test as you use your superpowers to defeat powerful enemies. A lot of new content that comes out for DC Universe Online must be purchased, but there are always new challenges around the corner thanks to numerous updates.

Dust 514 (PlayStation 3)
Take a step into the exciting side of the EVE Online universe in Dust 514. The title plays out perfectly alongside its big brother and even influence one another. While EVE Online will have you sending your fleets to take over planets, Dust 514 lets you pick up a weapon and be a part of the invasion. You will have to defend and take over various resources and bases in the first-person shooter with RPG elements. Every team will have a commander who will, in real time, send commands and work out strategies for the troops. Even the players of EVE Online can directly take part in the battle by unleashing powerful bombardments on the enemies of the ground troops. There are tons of weapons for you to choose from with a comprehensive leveling system and countless armor options for you in Dust 514.
